AUC Student Team Advances to Unilever's Uniway Global Competition Following Regional Victory
Congratulations to The American University in Cairo's (AUC) team Creative Crew for winning the Uniway Regional Competition 2023. On May 8, Unilever announced the winning team that will be representing AUC as well as the only team representing Egypt in the finals of the Uniway Global Competition in London in July. Hania Mahmoud, Celina Tadros, and Rawan El Sisy, were able to make it to the finals after two rounds of thorough challenges against teams from Egypt, North Africa, Levant, and Iraq.
Uniway is a business competition open to undergraduate and graduate students from Arab countries, including but not limited to Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq, coordinated at AUC by the Career Center. The competition is a team-based competition that accepts candidates from all disciplines or majors; the only requirement is having basic knowledge and understanding of areas of business such as marketing and finance.
Each team is given a business case to work on simultaneously with attending exclusive Unilever workshops that help students in constructing an influential business and are led by experts from Unilever. Perks of being the winners of the competition include exclusive coaching from top experts working at the Unilever headquarters, which helps competitors genuinely experience what it is like to be working at Unilever. Additionally, competitors get a direct offer for the Unilever Leadership Internship Program (ULIP) and a fast-tracked recruitment process for the graduate trainee program.
Mahmoud, a member of the AUC undergraduate team who won the regionals, said, “I am an avid challenge taker. I always like to embark on different journeys and experiences, especially outside the classroom, because this is the way I can learn and grow the most outside the classroom,” explained Mahmoud when asked about her motivation to participate in the Uniway competition.
Mahmoud also described the workshops as very beneficial, saying, “Getting to learn from people at Unilever’s head office was an extremely eye-opening experience because it gave us a unique look at what it is like to work inside a big multinational company. We got to work with people from many different departments, including consumer development and marketing.”
Moreover, Mahmoud expressed how she and her other colleagues, Tadros and El Sisy, are extremely enthusiastic about participating in the upcoming round of the competition, “The feeling of winning was amazing; however, we are still eager and wanting to put our a-game on to be able to excel in the upcoming round as well as represent Egypt when competing with other countries in the North Africa and Levant regions.”
AUC is extremely proud of the winning team’s achievement, and the Career Center wishes them the best of luck in the upcoming final round and is confident that they will make us even more proud!
